Cannot share folders or browse network

Post by registereduser »

I installed Linux Mint 13 maya (cinnamon) onto my PC, it worked great and sharing was available from the get-go with no need to customize any packages, so I installed it to my sister's PC
I told her "Look, it's so much more stable than Ubuntu also and the networking feature works great"

I went to show her how easy it works, but it wouldn't access shares, it said something about a dbus error first, then stopped saying that but still couldn't access the shares. I right click a folder on her PC and there is no sharing options available like it is on mine
it says in the sharing options the packages aren't installed to allow sharing, but I never had to install these on my PC, they were installed from the start.

what could have gone wrong?

I feel embarrassed because I told her how easy it is now, but then it didn't work and she just rolls her eyes at me :?

You've got 2 issues:

Server side:
I right click a folder on her PC and there is no sharing options available like it is on mine
You seem to have a missing package so install it:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nautilus-share
Client side:
but it wouldn't access shares, it said something about a dbus error first, then stopped saying that but still couldn't access the shares
Not sure about the DBus error but wee need to start with a diagnostic utility to see what the problem is so please post the output of the following command:

Code: Select all

smbtree
