Internet Connection - Newbies

Post by warun » Tue Apr 17, 2007 9:49 pm

Hi!

Just downloaded my Mint, and got it up and running on my ACER desktop, everything runs fine but can't connect to the internet.

First of all I have been a Ubuntu user for some time and connecting to the net was easy. Let me walk you through the process of the configuration.

In Ubuntu I have used "Sudo pppoeconf" and am able to connect to the internet.
In Mint I have used the same command everything is detected but there is no connection.

Ok now this is what I found different in Ubuntu and Mint.

Ubuntu.
Under Wired Connection in the Network Settings the Address is etho

Mint.
Under Wired Connection in the Network Settings the Address is DHCP

Now how do I change DHCP in Mint?

so your modem/router is not a DHCP sever or it is turn off.
You need to set a static IP for your network card.
Under Network settings edit the properties of the wired connection to use a static IP. Properties: click on the static IP radio button, IP = 192.168.1.2, netmask = 255.255.255.0
Use your IP subnet values though.
Save/Ok

woot internet.
