sorry its a duplicate to
viewtopic.php?f=150&t=243858
any way, there was no solusion told.

Question:
Is that chip that rare/special/seldom/... that it is not put into the kernel for years?
The vendor has source files in c, that should/could be compiled!? But this work should be done by some one who is
familiar with that kind of stuff ...

So in the end I have to switch back to working ol win.

Hi Marti,

Googling your problem(using Ubuntu 16.04) reveals several hits. From what I've gleaned from them, Realtek RTL811/8168/8411 comes in multiple revisions, not all of which work with the default kernel module r8169. (which you have installed) See here for more info which says one possible solution is to install r8168-dkms that is available in the repos. Hopefully you have access to the internet and can try this.

Cheers

Oh, I might be here for same reason. Also have RTL8111/8168/8411 but rev06.
I also don't have internet but if I restart my modem (after logged in) it's working after some time. This might also work for you.

Edit:
"sudo apt-get install r8168-dkms" did worked for me

I have the same problem. Linux Mint 18.1 lists my ethernet card in lspci, but desn't in ifconfig, and cannot use it. Debian with kernel 3.16.43-2 works fine.
