Wired connection not working after clean install

Post by morky »

Hey guys,
I just did a clean install of 18.1 on my desktop (so no wireless unfortunately) and the wired connection isn't working. If I boot windows it works just fine but when booting mint its just tries to connect and fails indefinitely.
Booting from a live image had the same issue. Any ideas on how to proceed?
Thanks a lot!

I would start with "How to get help", the link directly above your message
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=83444
and especially read #5.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

read your post
had similar problems the below is how i solved my lack of ethernet connection
1- before you update the linux kernel to the latest do the following.
make sure version is completely updated
change the proprietary driver to open source
reboot
change intel to do not use
reboot
open update manager
under view click on linux kernels
you should see linux kernel 4.4, 4.8, and 4.10
pick the latest kernel 4.10.26
install kernel
reboot
open driver manager install propietary driver and reboot
open driver manager and install intel microcode
reboot
look up easy linux tips
find the update intel microcode click on it it is on the right side column down a few sections
look for intel microcode update section click on the one for debian update which is on left side
go down the list to the latest microcode which is i believe is 51117 or something similar , the one that should be used is the plain amd64 not the one that has bpo etc
download it
install
reboot everything should work if it doesn't then we have to go back and see if something was done improperly
