external modem not detected

Post by ifm07 » Tue May 08, 2007 9:49 am

I am using Linux Mint 2.2 (Bianca). I have setup my external modem using the Networking tool. But somehow the modem is not detected.

Is there any way to query the modem which is allowed in other dsitros like PCLOS and Mepis etc?

I need to get dial up access. Pls help.

I installed gnome-ppp to get an external modem working properly/easily.

the only problem is that i had to download it on another computer and bring it on a usb flash drive.

install the deb package and hay presto (and set to stupid mode) a phone icon in the internet menu.

Just to confirm that as per the suggestion, I managed to d/load gnome-ppp. Double clicking installed it (needed to provide the root password). Then I had to configure gnome-kppp, which is no different then regular kppp. I did need to enable the modem in the Networking dialogue box.

Thanks again for the helpful post.
