Ethernet not working since 4.8 kernel

Post by Sekhmet »

Hi all,

I'm running Sonya 18.2 on my Asus R510J laptop for a while.

My ethernet card does not work anymore since kernel 4.8 (I have tested 4.10 and 4.11). If I use an old kernel such as 4.4, everything is fine (the wireless works, though).
I have no eth0 interface if I type `ifconfig`.

This is my ethernet card:

Code: Select all

lspci | grep Eth
04:00.1 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12)
Any idea?

Thanks!

If the 4.4 kernel supports all the hardware correctly, I would boot into it and uninstall the 4.8 and 4.10 kernels. The 4.4 kernel will be supported until 2021. The 4.8 kernel is EOL and 4.10 will be EOL after January 2018

Good point. I'll think about that in 2021 (from that...), unless someone has a better suggestion.

Thanks!
