Can't add .vhd from network drive to virtualbox 5.0.4

Post by JayKay3OOO »

Hi Folks.

In Linux (mint 18.3) You can't load a vhd through virtualbox (5.0.40 from the software centre). You can't add the .vhd file to virtualbox from a network location and you can't browse to a network location through virtualbox.

You can try and add the .vhd file through virtualbox if you first bookmark the location in nemo file browser, but then you get the error:

VD: error VERR_NET_OPERATION_NOT_SUPPORTED opening image file '/run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-share:server=fs1.local,share=volume_2/Cent OS 7.vhd' (VERR_NET_OPERATION_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Result Code:

NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

Component:

MediumWrap

Interface:

IMedium {4afe423b-43e0-e9d0-82e8-ceb307940dda}

Callee:

IVirtualBox {0169423f-46b4-cde9-91af-1e9d5b6cd945}

Callee RC:

VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND (0x80BB0001)

In other applications that are not nemo file browser you don't seem to have the ability to browse to a network location. Has this always been the way it works.

Can't seem to a find a work around

Interestingly when the network location is bookmarked in VLC you can browse the files, but they are greyed out and can't be opened. You can go to the file on the nas using nemo and open the file with vlc or any compatible application they will play the file.

The same .vhd files work locally.

Cheers folks, probably just missing something simple.
