Mint Linux breaks my Internet
Hi guys,
I am trying to switch from Windows to Linux Mint, so I put it into my USB drive, boot up and as soon as Linux starts up, my connection becomes 'limited'.
This is a desktop PC and connection is WIRED (Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter).
As far as I know, driver is recognized and working normally, it's just the connection that loses internet. After that, if I reboot my pc and let it start Windows, connection will be also limited, until I restart my modem. Same for my other laptop and even my phone, modem just loses internet connection. Worth mentioning that leds on the modem are normal during this lost of connection.
I tried also Ubuntu and Slax and they both 'break' my connection. The modem is configured by default to set everything automatically (dhcp, etc). My provider is Virgin Media (Dublin, Ireland).
Does anyone have any idea how to 'fix this? I really want to dual boot Win and Linux but if I have to reboot my modem everytime I boot Linux this setup will be impossible
Thanks in advance.

boot from your live usb and let it complete. there are a few tricks to kickstart the net. rightclick on the net tray icon and UNtick Enable Network then wait for a few 20 seconds and tick it ON. check the speed of internet.
or after it boots UNplug your modem for 20 seconds plug it back in and test it again

iwconfig
will give you some information run that in terminal before and after testing- powerwagon75

Re: Mint Linux breaks my Internet
Can you also post Make/Model of your modem, in case the issue does not get resolved.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies!
Well, answering them:
Well, answering them:
Trytip reply - I did exactly what you said and it doesn't work because I can't untick it (it is stuck on 'identifying' and it doesn't untick).

Re: Mint Linux breaks my Internet
Yes, sure, my bad I forgot to mention before
It is a wired connection on a Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
Mobo chipset Intel Z97.
As far as I understood when I booted Linux Mint, only my GPU was not properly recognized (needed Internet for installing Nvidia drivers).
The Ethernet adapter was there.
Re: Mint Linux breaks my Internet
so when you plug it in to the router it blocks other ports?
