Slow transfer speeds from samba share (SOLVED)
Hi i am having a problem with slow transfer speeds from a samba share through a VPN.
So my setup is that i have an Unraid server 6.5.1 running OpenVpn-as i am able to connect without any issues i can brows shares even connect to the webGUI.
The problem comes when i want to transfer say a 1.4GB file from my remote share to my local linux mint 18.3 cinnamon machine.
the transfer speeds sit between 973 kBs and cap at exactly 1Mb. any file i try to transfer has a painfully long estimated time where as on a windows machine
it transfers in half the time and is way faster i cant accept that 1Mb is the maximum speed it can do on linux mint 18.3.
can anyone shed some light on what i can do to improve this ?. thank you in advance

Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
That is commercial server version ?
Did you try both UDP and TCP, any difference ?
Firewall in Mint is disabled ?
Can you provide log of server @ --verb 4 from start server until client disconnect ?
Same for client.
Substitute private data in logs (use find and replace in text editor).

Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
Ah, that`s not right.between 973 kBs and cap at exactly 1Mb
973 kB/s = ~7.8 Mb/s
Please make sure you state the speeds correctly.

Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
Thank you for your reply i apologize for the inaccuracy i am getting 973kB/s and capping at 1.0MB it will not go any higher.
I am currently in the process of trying TCP just setting it up now and as for verb 4 i dont quite understand as i am still a newbie to some of this
Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
Just tried with TCP and speeds are actually worse, the firewall in mint is disabled and has always been from the start and no its openvpn access server

Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
Ok,
So 1 MB/s would be ~8 Mb/s
Does that come close to your server side upload and/or client side download?

Re: Slow transfer speeds from samba share
Then there seems nothing badly wrong with speed.
You download with 8 Mb/s and your server upload is 10 Mb/s, that`s 80%, not really bad.
