Mint in VMWare unable to get IP from DHCP

Post by sshark »

My Mint 18 is a guest in the VMWare Workstation 14 with the Bridged network. I have no issue with the network using fixed IP. However, if I switch to using automatic IP i.e. request an IP from my Linksys router DHCP server, the network interface will forever be down. It keeps sending discovery requests,

The host machine (Windows 10) has no issue with the DHCP server. How do I fix this? Thanks

Hi,

When you use bridge NIC on VMware, you need a external dhcp service to distribute the IP.

Change the network config to use a VM NIC with NAT and try again.

Check the Virtual Network Editor if NAT is marked (default) to use local DHCP service to distribute IP address to VMs
