IPv4 Address Changes & No Internet

Hail Minters:

This has happen about three to four times in the last two weeks. For some reason,
the IPv4 address changes from 192.168.-.- to 172.27.35.-- with the lose of Internet.

The wifi keeps working, but the Ethernet is kaput. Does anyone know why this happens?
Is it the manifestation of the NSA, CIA, DHS or other governmental units :?:

I hope someone could of helf, as this is madding and a big waste of my time. Someone suggested
a fresh install [in the produce department, with a hair net] but that will require a lot of hours as well.

I even did a time shift and it appeared to do nothing to solve the issue. Would a static address do the trick :?:
I am not even sure what I did to change back to the original IPv4 address. I thought the modem was going
out, until I hooked up the laptop.

Frank you most kindly.

Maybe try a different DNS server, here's Google:

Sleeper, thanks for the suggestion. Done. I hope this is a
fix. I went with Cloud Flare, rather than the Do Evil Folks.

Sleeper, lost Internet again. The bloody Ipv4 number changed once more.

Is there a way to keep a static address, like the one that works :?:

I think it would be best to wait for someone who knows more about that than I do. Meanwhile, have a look here:

Sleeper, thanks for the link.

Now this is very strange. I changed out the HDD SATA cable and attached
the one which was on the HDD with Mint and booted the PC. Holely Cow, my
IPv4 number came back [192.] and I had Internet. I reversed the cables again
and had the same issues, with an IPv4 address of [172] and no Internet. Both
of these cable run to the SATA connection on the mamaboard.

I am not sure why this is happening :?: :!: What difference now does this SATA
port make.

I was wong about the modem and router, as our IP pinged the line and said it was
functioning. I am still scathing my head and listening to the Grateful Dead.

I messed up the OS by trying to transfer it to another HDD.

I had to reinstall Mint and once again the IPv4 changed to [172], however,
this time there was no issue with connecting to the Internet. Apparently, the
SATA cables going to the HDDs had nothing to do with this.

I am now thinking there was an installation issue with the first install. BTW, this
fresh install took 17 minutes to finish. I had boot and Grub conflicts. Other OSs
[four] would not even install. I am surprise that the OS Debbie 4 login page came up,
which was installed on a second HDD but would not open as the password was
continuously rejected. Mint 19.1 now is operating like it should, including the login
page.

It is nice to score a victory every once in a while.

At this point, the changing of the IPv4 address is not germane.
The reason my Internet was dropping or not working at all, was that
I had placed both Cloud Flare IPs in the same DNS box. After placing
1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 in separate boxes the problems appears to be fixed.

 https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1 ... 1.1/linux/

The same thing must be done with IPv6 address. BTW, I changed to Cloud Flare,
as they keep logs for only 24 hours. Your local provider it is more than likely months
on end and a sources of revenue as this data is sold to the marketplace.

Thanks so much, Sleeper ! The clue for me was dat my MicroGates 7
was functioning with the network correction perfectly. This told me that
I had an issue with a Mint setting and that it was more my doing than the OS
itself.

BTW, I go Instructables.com each and every day. It is a wonderful website
with monster ratings.

Well, Sleeper, I spoke to early. I am still having on and off issues.
The only thing that has changed, is I do not get two different dialogue boxes
for setting the network. Even the working MX-Linux now will not connect.

It was either a bad download; operator error; or defects in Linux. I did find
several possible solutions, however, they required a dozen or so of command lines.

I am not going to spend more than a hour or two fixing this issue. I personal think this
is an issue with Linux and it's by-products. It is not the modem either, as the IPS pinged
it and found no issues. And yes, Mr Softie works with no issues.

I have ordered three DVD OSs from Disc.com and will reinstall. If this fails, well then it
is good bye to Linux; as I have spend almost as much time trying to find solutions to varies
OS issue than the Internet itself. I will never again use a ISO or torrence for software,
unless there is no alternative.

I know all OSs have operational issues, but this is just too much @#$%. At this point, I
would not recommend Linux or any of it's derivatives to the average computer user. I would
give Mint documentation a grade F. MX-Linux get a grade of A-.

I am keeping my figures cross, dat I either find a answer to this network problem or the
factory DVD OSs install successfully.

I have also order "The Linux Command Line 2nd edition" and prepared to order others
if it will make Linux OSs work and comprehend.

Gee, I put in a command line and once again the forum's software crosses out my post.

I believe now this maybe a browser setting issue within FF, however,
I am going to wait for a full week of use with both MX-Linux and Mint 20,
to see if in fact it is the problem.

I have monkeyed with this setting before with no positive results. There is
little in the way of information, as to what setting to use and why, if there
is a failure with the default setting.

Ali Novian, thank you for your thanks.

Currently, I am having no issues with either Mint 20 and Manjaro.
I do not know why but under the Identity tab, Mint shows a MAC Address, however,
in Manjaro, the MAC address is blank. :? :?

I seriously doubt I will ever come up with an answer.

The Mx-Linux 19.2 OS would not accept my password and was replaced
with 18 which required no login password. It also accessed the Internet with
no issues.

In the past week I have had no issue with network connection.
The last time I did, I changed the wired connection 1 to
profile 1 and got connected to the Internet. The other time,
I changed from profile 1 to wired connection 1 and linked to the web.

I can now state unequivocally, that receiving a different IPv4
address had no effect whether I had Internet or not.

Not sure why the network issue was resolved, however, I did purchase
a Mint voodoo doll.

That particular voodoo doll only works for network issues. If you have any other problems, go to your vendor and get one for whatever other problem you're having.

After ten days of no network issue it happened again. I booted into Dows 7
and had to fix network issues. Then both Mint 20 and Manjaro 20 had the
same issue. This time I simply click network off and on and I had Internet again.

Since this failed on three different OSs, one must conclude it is not a software issue
but rather hardware issue. What it could be, I do not know. Is it a aging modem or
is the Ethernet card defect :?: :?:
