<SOLVED> Ethernet not working

Post by wimbledon_lime_drive »

Heya! I'm new to Linux and PC building both. I just finished my first PC build and installed Mint on it, no real problems. However, I can't connect to the internet. My PC doesn't have wifi and nothing comes up even though my ethernet cord is plugged in. In my bios I can see that my motherboard does recognize whether or not the ethernet is plugged in. Also, the ethernet works for another (Windows) computer. Additionally, I don't understand the layout for internet and stuff on Mint, really. Like Network Settings just shows me proxy options, which I'm not familiar with. Here's my motherboard:

What should I do? Any help is highly appreciated!

Any usb wifi device from the pihut should get you online for now,,cheap as chips

Other than that I suggest a bleeding edge release such as OpenSuSe Tumbleweed
Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon

Yeah, I ordered up an ethernet-usb adapter and it'll be coming in a week... So that's just a little last resort right now. As for that link, I went to the Realtek page (https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zo ... s-software) and got the driver (2.5G Ethernet LINUX driver r8125 for kernel up to 5.6) but how do I install it?

I see a few listings (like IPv6 Address, IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, etc.) when I use ipconfig on Windows 10- which one should I go with? Also, does it matter that I'm getting my IP address from a wifi device, or would it have to be one connected by ethernet? My apologies for being such a newbie haha.
