checking media presence, media present, start PXE over IPV4 etc.

Post by dome77 »

Running a brand new dual boot install with LM 20 xfce and Win 10 Home.

Initially the pc was set up on a wifi connection, no problems there. I decided to go with an ethernet connection thinking it might be more secure. Plugged in the ethernet cable. All startups after that have produced a black screen with the message given above in the subject. After about a minute the pc then boots into LM. AFAIK I have disabled both secure boot and fast start. I have set the boot order to USB, then DVD with Windows Boot Manager at the bottom of the list.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate this hiccup at the beginning of boot up? I have searched the forum but have not found anything helpful so far.

Two things. First, the PXE message is coming from your machine, not from Linux. You need to consult your machine's manual or poke about in the BIOS and disable PXE boot.

Second, for that machine, you should be using kernel 5.8. Run Update Manager and on the View menu, select Linux Kernels and install the latest 5.8.
