Can't connect

Post by kenhzzz » Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:10 pm

I was connecting to the internet and installed Samba and Nfs, now I get nothing. I have removed Samba but still get nothing. I have went into system and tried several changes but to no avail. It seems to be connecting to my router just fine, but wont connect to the modem. I really like LinuxMint, but i need to be able to connect to the internet. It works fine with XP, but windows drives me nuts with all its problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am not strong 0n Linux yet, so be easy on me. I am running Casandra kde
and am on a wired net.

Thanks kenh

sounds like a gateway issue.
check via the knetwork manager that the gateway is set to the modems IP.

Oops you may have a bug from the initial KDE Cassandra release.
my fault that.

so open /etc/issue and insert at the beginning of the first line "Ubuntu " (minus quotes). open terminal and type:

kdesu kate /etc/issue
enter your password.

add Ubuntu at the beginning of the line, save and close.

now when you use KDE control center the Administration tool will work.

what happens if you use KDE control center (system settings i think).

go down to administration then networking and use it to check your settings?
you have to click on the administration button to change settings.

you have to use the kdesu command to open the file as root.

so open a terminal (konsole) and type:

kdesu kate /etc/issue
enter your password when asked.
edit save close.
