[solved] No internet: NWM unmanaged

Post by lauren »

Hi!
The last months my network (ethernet: cable) worked fine. I did nothing else but the usual updates. Since some days I have
no internet. Click on NW-Icon in the panel ->
unmanaged
and then
NW Management disabled
How to repair it?

Have you tried a modem/router reset?

The Network Disabled got my attention. This is how you fix it.

I found a way to fix it, it is a two step process and it works!

Step one: In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo kate /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf
(kate is the test editor in KDE. If you are using Gnome it is gedit)
Change the managed=false to managed=true
Then in terminal again;

Code: Select all

sudo killall nm-system-settings
Step Two: Again in terminal;

Code: Select all

sudo service network-manager stop
sudo kate /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
(Again Kate is the editor for KDE. Gedit is the one for Gnome)
With NetworkManager.state open, it looks like this:

Code: Select all

[main]
NetworkingEnabled=false
WirelessEnabled=true
WWANEnabled=true
(If your NetworkManager.state doesn't have the WIrelessEnabled option, don't worry, unless you are using wireless. Then add it!)
Change the NetworkingEnabled=false to NetworkingEnabled=true. Then in terminal again;

Code: Select all

sudo service network-manager start
And away you go! That should fix your problem. I would then suggest that you copy this and keep it in your Documents folder for the fix so you don't have to reboot with the LiveCD!

Txnca, this is only a temporary hit and miss fix for me, I have an Intel 82566DC onboard ethernet and I cannot get to work all the time in Julia 64-bit.
Is there a permanent solution to this problem???
What do I think about Window$??? Just take a look at my AVATAR...

I had the same problem starting the network on an on-board Intel 82566DM Gigabit Network Controller running the Mint 10 KDE amd64 Live DVD. Txnca's instructions above worked perfectly. Many thanks.
