Will Mint 6 have the Intrepid Ibex features?

Post by morty007 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:40 pm

I noticed Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid ibex has a "last known good figuration" boot option, and removes old kernels automatically among many other features. Is mint 6 going to have these things? If not when it comes out, will we get the updates then? http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/ ... ry%20entry

Mint follows the Ubuntu release cycle and comes out a month or two after the Ubuntu release. Whether or not those features stay in depends on whether or not Clem thinks they effect stability of Mint. Maybe he will write a mint tool that does a better job. Time will tell :)

Interesting. He's the expert, but let me say that I hope that most of those things will be in there. Especially the new wireless stuff, but the recovery options too.

There are alot of features I can't see Clem not wanting, especially if ease of use is one of Mints main goals. I really want to see the improved monitor and printer support in 6

Mint uses grub-gfxboot and Ubuntu uses their own grub.
I have taken the latest grub-gfxboot and added the last good boot option too it and already have a working package for Felicia.
I have also backported it for Elyssa.
The last good boot automatically copies the working settings to a different folder to be used when selecting the last good boot.(initrd. vmlinuz, boot line etc)
Once a good boot with new settings have completed it will copy the new settings over the old.
Another change for grub-gfxboot include a fix for the missing message problem that happen when you have a separate boot partition.
Linux Mint 6 Felicia will use the intrepid package base and should have the these improvements, as long as Ubuntu doesn't change them.
