fresh install vs upgrade

Post by bulevardi » Thu Mar 14, 2019 1:46 pm

I'm wondering if the boot time different after you do
- an upgrade from Mint 18.3 to 19
- a fresh install of 19 ?

I suppose an upgrade is only possible in the same flavour ? Cinnamon 18.3 > Cinnamon 19... you cannot go from Cinnamon 18.3 to Xfce 19 by upgrade? You'll probably have to do a fresh install for that?

Do a fresh install. Upgrading in-place is only OK within the same series, i.e. the 18 series.

You can upgrade from 18.3 to 19 within same flavours but it is very dangerous. I advise against it.
Tried twice, got lucky once and failed the second time. Easier and faster to do a clean install and restore.
WARNING the following maybe HAZARDOUS to your computer! (Maybe to your own sanity)
See https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2416, that will upgrade you to 19 then you'll have to upgrade to 19.1 using Update Manager.
HEED ALL THE WARNINGS! and read the comments.
Back everything up.
If you try it Good Luck!
