LMDE versus JULIA [SOLVED]

Post by riki » Mon Nov 29, 2010 8:31 am

This might appear to be a silly question but here goes. What is the difference between LMDE and JULIA as far as updates are concerned? LMDE, as a rolling release, is updating continuously but doesn't JULIA also update regularly? Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

Hi!
The support of Julia ends in April 2012, Isadora (LTS): April 2013. Afterwards it's essential to upgrade or install n new version with a newer kernel.

So, in other words lauren, JULIA updates just as much and as regularly as LMDE? I thought that rolling distros updated much more frequently.

Not necessarily more frequently. Just for an indefinite period of time.

Hi!
That's a question I can't answer; I had installed LMDE, but because I had problems (e.g. sound), I deleted it - I really have enough Linux distributions on my laptop.

Hi,

LMDE is a rolling release based on Debian Testing. JULIA is based on Ubuntu. Both JULIA and Ubuntu are a frozen version of a distribution.
Both have updates but JULIA like Ubuntu have a life limit. JULIA is a version of the Linux Mint distribution and it's updates stops when support of the Ubuntu version from which Julia is based on stops. After that, packages won't be updated anymore. If you want the more recent updates you have to install the new version the team is working on.

LMDE has no version of its distribution. By updating it, you will always have the newer packages and functionality.
