How about a theme for the girls?

Postby jono » Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:05 am

I've just switched to Mint after spending a year with Ubuntu and Kubuntu. It's really what I've been looking for. The graphics and design are first-rate. However, while I love the Wild Mint theme, it's not so good for my daughter, who likes colours like aquamarine, purple, even pink.

I know I'm sounding sexist but any possibility of a theme for the girls?

No need; If you are being serious..

You can adjust the background color anyway you want, just by selecting it
right-click on an empty space on the desktop>Change Desktop background color , make any changes you want..

If you go here:

You can get the same theme in several different colours. I use the blue one (Shiki-Brave) right now. 8)

Yes, i am being serious!

I know I can change some colours, but have problems changing all the colours, like for example the window outer background. Preferences doesn't seem to touch this. So it's really a theme i want, and I've noticed that the graphic designers putting Mint together are better than myself at putting it together.

Thanks I'll check out the linked site and see if it offers me what i'm looking for.

Edit: I've had a look. I notice that the window framework (eg Main Menu and other toolbars) is still a mid grey, while only the things in it are changed, such as sliders. I am looking for the actual toolbar/windows to be changeable. (Like Wild Mint has a very dark grey window bgnd)

I am asking too much, I know. I know. Who'd want to design a girlie theme?

Let me suggest that you use the appearance option from Menu and the Gnome Colour Chooser (downloadable from Synaptic) to make modifications to your current theme. If you want to take it a step further you might consider using a wallpaper switcher like drapes or wallpaper-tray (both in Synaptic) to automatically change the desktop background graphics. Being mainly a Gnome desktop user I don't have any suggestions for KDE but i am sure there are similar options available there as well. Good Luck

If you can't make something better, adapt
If you can't do either ball your panties up and cry.

Complaining is like masticating most anyone can do it.
However doing it in public is really hardcore.

Thanks for all the ideas. I didn't realise Mint was quite as flexible as it was to customise through Appearance.

I have gone back to the themes dialogue and made the changes I wanted to Wild Mint and got exactly what I wanted! Success! Garish pinks and aquas!

Thanks for your help.

The "Wild Mint" theme IS pretty cool. I use it stock as-is. 8)

Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
But that's okay -
They're just afraid to change.
