Using 18.1 64 bit Cinnamon with all updates..... It automatically mounts my external USB drive if plugged in at boot, or when hot-plugging.
I installed XFCE as an option and can log into either environment. When logging into XFCE the USB drive does not automount at login, but it does create a launcher for easy mounting. I have tried every setting I can find within XFCE including installing Thunar volman, but that does not cause automount at boot.
Is there a setting within XFCE that I haven't run across yet? Easy solution?
Thanks.

Thunar's menu >Edit >Preferences >Advanced tab >Volume Manager's >Configure link - Are the Mount settings checked ?

Yes, and those options only produce a desktop launcher, as they should. The drive also mounts if hot-plugged in XFCE.
