VPN failed to start

Post by jollydrifter »

I am using private internet access and I get the error message "VPN failed to start".
I use the recommended openvpn profiles. It also doesn't work if I use their own program and the service is working on windows and android. Thx in advance.

Hi "jollydrifter",

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !

It would help to know more about your system setup, what edition and version of Linux Mint are you using. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

Excellent choice in VPN providers by choosing "Private Internet Access (PIA)".

Please be as specific as you can be when describing your issues. How are you accessing and setting up the VPN servers, through the Network Manager, console terminal prompt, their installation script?

As for whether or not your VPN connections work when you have multiple connections with other devices depends upon your service agreement with your VPN provider, like you may only be allowed to have 1,2,3,4,5, etc... devices logging into your VPN account at one time.

Tip: If you use a hardware router that can handle VPNs to add your VPN server(s), then all devices accessing that router through wired or wireless connections automatically inherit the VPN connection and you are only using one login.

Hope this helps ...

Here you go. What I meant was it works in android and windows but when I use PIA own script it doesn't work either.

I download the recommended openvpn profiles from PIA and I go into network connections. I click add and pick import a saved vpn configuration. Then I insert my username and password. Then when I try to start it from connection manager it says this error message "VPN connection failed. The VPN connection failed because the VPN service failed to start.
