Folder with Permissions for Samba Filesharing (solved)

Postby acestu » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:14 am

SOLVED)Hi,

I have set up a Samba file server to recreate a problem that I am having with another setup, now I have got the linux server to talk to windows but every file that I put into the Fileshares folder has the wrong permissions ie I can't write to it, so if I go into terminal and set the permissions then it is fine, is there a way of setting the folder so that every new document that I put in there has the correct permissions automatically ?

Thanks
In Advance
Stuart

I have no idea what version of Mint you are using, what desktop environment you are using, what method you are using to create the samba share, or how the share is defined so this is a general wild ass guess:

Edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and right under the workgroup = WORKGROUP line add the following:

Code: Select all

force user = altair

Change altair to your own Mint user name on this box
Then restart samba: sudo service smbd restart
Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.

Hi Altair,

Sorry for the lack of info, I gave myself a crash course in Linux and Samba yesterday, however thanks to your wild guess this post is Solved.

cheers
