fstab cifs share freezing after suspend

Postby delware » Thu Sep 14, 2017 3:38 pm

Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description: Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya
Release: 18.2
Codename: sonya
Dell 5510 laptop with dock station
===================================

contents of fstab (partial)
----------------------------------
//192.168.1.10/public /mnt/Public cifs credentials=/home/USERNAME/.smbcredentials,nounix,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0

when I first log in I drop to a terminal and run "sudo mount -a"

That works fine. All is well in the world and I am able to get to my public share.

Now. If I lock the PC *OR* let the PC lock itself after 5 min......then when I resume and re-log in (I have not nailed down a specific duration of time that the PC needs to be locked) I am unable to access the public share AND any attempt to utilize it will freeze the process (such as umount, du, or just trying to browse the folder)

I have verified that I am still able to ping the server, my network connection is still fine (can get to other machines, ping, get to the internet)

The ONLY way I have been able to resolve this is via a reboot.

This is driving me nuts, does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Thank you,
John

If it were my system I wouldn't be suspending or hibernating while I had active network connections.

See this ubuntu thread for a possible solution.

Also see this bug report, which indicates it hasn't been fixed.
If your problem is fixed, please mark your thread as [SOLVED] by editing the title of the first message in the thread.

I'm a newbie to Linux from Windows, so the fstab method was all that I found. I just switched everything over to autofs and it fixed my headache. Thanks a lot for the tip!!
