Hello,
I don't see any option to specify search domains when configuring the name server in the network manager. Is there some other way to specify DNS search domains?
I would add them to resolv.conf but it says that the file is generated and should not be modified.

Re: Where to define DNS search domains
Hi "jhall1990",
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !
It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
There are many posts on this in this forum. It is easy to do, but make sure you use a secure and safe DNS provider. I have been using "dns.watch" for a long time now..
Good Instructions for changing DNS from OpenDNS
- You can use openDNS servers or from another DNS provider.

Re: Where to define DNS search domains
The search domains can be added by editing the connection, under IPv4 and/or IPv6 settings

"DNSCrypt is a piece of lightweight software that everyone should use to boost online privacy and security. It works by encrypting all DNS traffic between the user and OpenDNS, preventing any spying, spoofing or man-in-the-middle attacks"
You can learn about DNScrypt and OpenDNS at

You can read about OpenDNS at

You can install DNScrypt (dnycrypt-proxy) on linux mint from the Software manager and set it up with OpenDNS following the instructions at
