What does this mean? There is a column that says unknown in the left section. I've seen it have at least two different ips. In case you need to know, I'm using OpenVPN with IPVanish.

I just read your post and the good reply to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

How did you setup your VPN server connection(s), from the Network Manager (NM) icon in your system tray panel, or from a console terminal command prompt?

Did you use the Add VPN option (manual), or the "Import VPN" option? The "Import VPN" is the better method. Can you provide us an ".ovpn" configuration file to look at?

I do not see anything wrong with the results from the "inxi -Fxzd", so that is good. You do have 2 video cards, and usually Nvidia will work better than the Intel that it is using now, but oddly it does not show which Nvidia card you have? And your computer's processor (CPU) is not running in "Performance Mode", if you want to change that, see link below.

Because you have very new and nice computer hardware, I think you should seriously consider updating the Linux Kernel to the 4.11 series, perhaps 4.12 series, through your Linux Mint update Manager right now, reboot, re-run the "inxi -Fxzd" and re-post those results before doing anything else.

Also, I would recommend updating the "openVPN" software using the instructions in the link below.

How do I update to 4.12? All I see is 4.4.0-92.121 for a Kernel update. BTW, do I need to turn on fan performance mode when I turn on CPU performance mode? I used the import VPN option. How do I give you the .ovpn file? The site says I can't put it on here. I will update OpenVPN tomorrow. Also, are all repositories safe that have a signing key?

1.) Linux Kernels: If you go into the Mint Update Manager under View are the Kernels, and on the left are the kernel series like 4.11 or 4.12. Like I already mentioned, wait to do the performance mode tweaks (except in Bios), because the Kernel may have a significant impact on your newer hardware system and thus the results of your "inxi -Fxzd".

I really like the "Ukuu" Linux Kernel Manager, but some others seem to think it could be risky. I have not had any problems with using it. Never install "rc" kernels, only stable ones.

2.) As for performance mode regarding fans, I do not know about that. My guess would be that setting would make your fan run faster, possibly louder too, but you can experiment with that. It helps to have a temperature application (applet, desklet, screenlet, widget) to see how hot your CPU cores are with various settings. I also recommend "sensor" applications (applet, desklet, screenlet, widget) like "Psensor" (lm-sensors), etc... for checking fan speeds, etc...

3.) You can provide me (us) a link to the file(s) online. If you have a cloud service, you can upload any type of file, like an ".ovpn" and the get a shared link to it which you copy and past in this forum, email, etc... I recommend "pCloud" (10gb free), or "Mega.nz" (50gb free), Google drive works well too.

Can you go into the Network Manager (NM), and edit the VPN connection, and printscreen and post that screenshot for us? (If need be, edit image to hide username).

4.) The repositories I suggest do have keys and are safe to use. But, feel free to ask others. Usually, you cannot install or update software if they do not have a good key.

Which Kernel should I use? As in specific version. I don't want to break anything, I have no idea how to fix it. I already read all of the stuff that pertains to me on the Easy Linux Tips Project. What do you mean edit the connection? Do you mean just the gateway or what? I meant are ALL repositories with a signing key safe. Also, when you import VPN it isn't necessary to edit anything in advanced, right? I just wanted to make sure.

1.) it is always safe to install a Linux Kernel because if a new kernel you install does not work as well as you wanted, or at all, you can just reboot and select advanced boot options, select a previous Linux Kernel and you will be back up and running. Since you have extremely new computer hardware, I would use one on the 4.12 series, The 4.13 series has caused some issues with some people from what I read in this forum.

2.a.) When you add a VPN server through the Network Manager (NM), you have created a new network connection. So, if you go into edit connections for that new VPN server you created, double click that or select edit, and you will be at an edit VPN screen.

2.b.) In Linux Mint 18.x, it should not be necessary to change anything in the advanced options of your VPN connection(s), assuming the VPN provider's configuration file (somewhere.ovpn) is good.

3.) "I meant are ALL repositories with a signing key safe." - I do not know if "ALL repositories" are totally safe because I do not know all of them.

Sorry for asking so many different questions, but it doesn't show the 4.12 Kernels. Only 4.4, 4.8, 4.10, 4.11 and 4.13. How do I get 4.12?

I just checked the Mint Update Manager and I do not see any of the Linux Kernels in the 4.12 series either. But, I would try the 4.13 series then (4.13.0-16) . Just because someone else had an issue with one of the 4.13 kernels does not mean you will. From what I can tell 4.13.11 is available from Ukku, so not sure why Mint only has the one 4.13.0-16.

Unless you have very new hardware (and you do), most users would be good sticking in the 4.11 series. I had 4.12.7 installed for awhile with no problems. From what I have read, the 4.12 series and newer represent major improvement upgrades to the Linux Kernels.

Oh, you meant go into the edit screen. I just removed my user name because I didn't want to edit it. I thought I should let you know in case it changed anything, I changed the driver from Nouveau to the Nvidia driver, but I looked at the inxi -Fxzd results and it doesn't look like it changed, so I'm not sure if that would affect anything. The new Kernel works fine, but I haven't noticed a speed increase or anything because I don't do anything intensive on Linux.

Not sure why your Nvidia card is still not being seen. Please read this link. Do you know what model Nvidia video card this is supposed to be, like GTX 1070? You say you tried to change the driver, how did you do that?

For updating your Nvidia video driver. There was mention in that link, that you might have settings for the dual video display in your Bios, including one called "DISCRETE"?
