Want to install open source firmware on my Router

Post by linux_rules »

Code: Select all

DIR 600 L
H/W Ver B1
F/W Ver.2.04
Hi,
I badly want to install an open source firmware on my router.

I checked DD-WRT but it doesnt seem to support my router.

Kindly tell me if there is any open source firmware available for

my router.

Hello,

I just did a quick search with the info you gave and found this: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-600

Do not know if this will be helpful, but maybe it is a start.

Good Fortune,

Hello,

I do not have time to study that link, but there seems to be a lot of info and guides. I would study first and maybe
try to look up a forum or chat for more information. It appears that your router may need some special directions, I do
not know. I guess I would make sure that I have the right firmware to install and do it the safest way, which again may
take more research. Maybe someone else will have more knowledge about this, soon. Unfortunately I do not have much time
to help, today.

In short, I would not rush into this. There is always a danger of bricking a router, if done incorrectly.

Good fortune,

Hello,

I have found some time to check on this again. Discovered that your router is supported by dd-wrt. Here are the links for info:

https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/S ... ces#D-Link
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-600
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D ... re_upgrade
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/

I do not know which is better openwrt or dd-wrt, but from what I briefly read so far, it appears it may be much easier
to install the dd-wrt firmware. Seems to be some good docs and support, too.

Best regards,

Marcia

Hello,

I do apologize. You are correct. I totally left out the L during my research. It seems maybe no opensource firmware will work on it. Not sure.

Will look around for more info. Does it work fine the way it is? Perhaps if not you could upgrade to newer firmware from dlink, if available. I understand your wish for opensource indeed.

Sincerely,

Marcia

Yes it works but I am worried about WAN security. This router is no longer supported by Dlink. There is no newer firmware available from Dlink.

OpenWRT/LEDE might support your device with the latest version 17.01.4 but see the 432_warning at the top of this page.

On second look the DIR-600 B1 is different than the DIR-600L. OpenWRT only lists the DIR-600 versions, not the DIR-600L.

True. I will do some research about DDWRT compatible routers and buy one.
