Deluge

Post by FrankN209 »

Every time I am downloading with Deluge, Chrome and FF starts running slow. The torrents are only downloading at 1 - 2mb a sec, and I have 450mb download speeds. Are there any changes that I can make in Deluge to remedy this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi FrankN209,

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

A lot would depend upon your computer hardware.

If you have not changed your Local ISP's DNS server IP addresses to secure and anonymous ones from a DNS Provider like "dns.watch", the new "cloudflare", "opennic", or "openDNS", then do that that to prevent your ISP from slowing you down or preventing access.

I have not used Deluge since I switched to Linux, but there might be settings for CPU or Threads where you can limit how many cpu threads are devoted to Deluge. For example, if you have a dual core processor with 2 cpu threads, devote 1 for Deluge which free the other for other apps like a browser, or if you have 4 cpu core threads, you can devote 1-2 for deluge and the others for other stuff.

If Deluge does not have settings for CPU core threads, try the excellent "Tixati" or another torrent software client.

I just noticed that in my "Ktorrent" client there is a setting to use "utp" "utorrent transport protocol which may hellp with this?

Hope this helps ...

instead of using INFINITE for your speed you need to calibrate it and it's a hit or miss DEPENDING if your ISP is throttling you which they probably are. you need to call your ISP and ask them directly "are you throttling my internet"
so for your speed limit it at 1mbps download and half that for upspeed and see how that goes

Hi FrankN209

This looks like a great computer (Quad core Intel Core i7 with 8 CPU threads, 16gb of system memory (ram)), what make and model is it? I do not see anything wrong with the results of the "inxi -Fxzd" console terminal command, so that is a good thing.

I do not see any Linux Kernel information? You might benefit from updating the Linux Kernel to a newer one, if you have not already done so because you have very new computer hardware and for security reasons.

Hello,

Yes, I've updated to the newest kernel just two days ago. I think it is more a bug with deluge. My browser sometimes locks up. I'm trying Ktorrent now.
