System crash possibly caused by network driver

Post by Zsolt0318 »

Hi,

The problem is that sometimes the system crashes after starting up the system. It seems to me that it's connected to the network usage, because the crash usually occurs after starting a software which uses the network heavily. Starting Firefox with lots of open tabs or starting Transmission or even the update manager seems to trigger the crash. So after a few seconds of opening one of the mentioned programs, the system just crashes and the PC restarts.
There are cases when the wired network connection's status is not connected, although the cable is connected as usual. Most of the times the crash can be predicted based on this.

Once the system starts normally (and not crashes after opening Firefox) it remains stable in all of the cases. Sometimes it takes 3-4 crashes to reach this point. Sometimes the first start is already good.

I checked the syslog a few times after these crashes, and the last line before the crash is always something like this:

Code: Select all

The SRC is the router and DST is the local host.

I use Linux Mint 18.3 x64, Cinnamon, 4.13.0-41-generic x86_64 Kernel, an Intel Core2 Duo E8500 CPU, a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R-rev-1x motherboard.
I already updated from 18.1 to 18.3, the Kernel version, the drivers, the problem is the same since a few months. Can't think of any package install or update which triggered the problem the first time.

What should I check in this situation? Is it even possible that it's connected to the network usage?

I appreciate any help,
Zsolt

Hello Zsolt and Welcome to Linux Mint Forums,

Please generate a system overview by entering this command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Then post the results in code tags.
