Smart TV can see folders over network but not files.

After upgrading to Mint 19 or it could be a recent software update for the TV the TV can read folders and files from the internal hard drive but can only see the folders on USB hard drives but not the files. The error message on the TV is 'No valid file to play'.
Before updates the system worked perfectly and I was able to view videos on my TV that are stored on a USB 3Tb hard drive attached to my PC on the network.
I confess since migrating to Linux Mint from Windows 10 I have struggled with networking, apart from this I am very pleased with Linux Mint and won't be returning to Windows.
