Icons Missing in Explorer after NAS installation

Post by polyjuice »

After installing NAS using OpenMediaVault - (OMV-4x on RaspberryPi with a 1T portable drive) - networked to multiple Linux Mint 19 hosts, I have lost ICONs on all files retrieved from NAS in my hosts Explorer. All files - Documents, Music and Pictures - are stored and retrieved correctly, but the ICONs in Explorer are missing. If I drag these files to the Desktop the ICONs are correct. The text identifying the files are correct. I need help in trouble shooting this problem. Thanks - carl

This happens to me quite often when I change themes. You might try selecting a different icon set and if that fixes it, set it back to your preferred icon set.

Catweazel, I was not able to restore ICONs by changing themes as you suggested, BUT, BUT, I was able to get my system into a state of not allowing any NAS writes or moving data to a Desktop. It at this point did a panic.... Luckily my other system was still working - they are both Linux Mint 19. I then changed the broken systems themes to match working system themes - rebooted broken system and everything working as before I messed with the themes. There is something funky - funky going on with the system themes and OMV software. Thanks for you suggestions. carl

Catweazel, I fear that I am demonstrating my 'beginner status' with my problems - and by not describing my problem better. I understand your previous post about the ICONs and how to change them. However, my real problem is with the 'thumb-nails' used for graphic files - the likes of JPEGs - PNGs - TIFFs, etc., where I expect to see a small version of the file in the explorer screen.

It is the 'thumb-nails' that I am missing (img-1) when using the system explorer to look at my graphic files stored on my NAS. Image-2 shows the 'thumb-nails' that I expect to see. Thanks so much for your time. carl

Nemo explorer's preferences provides option for displaying thumbnails on remote storage. It's a learning thing........
