surfing problems after replacing computer
Hello,
After my lenovo has been burned, a technician managed to move the hard drive,
with Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64 bit and all the rest of the information on it to a new lenovo.
Everything is working well except:
After a few seconds of good surfing the browser says that "The site can't be resolved".
I can't update the device manager as well. The error displayed is "Failed to download pool data".
Update manager is working alternatively. now it is up to date.
Wifi is working well during all the time.
Firewall is off.
Pinging "www.google.com" returning good results.
Pinging "8.8.8.8" also returning good results.
Please advise

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
are you running a vpn? try changing DNS. this is openDNS you can change later to google or cloudfare or others. after applying and saving restart your connection (tick it OFF/ON) or reboot then after reboot what is
nslookup linuxmint.com
did it show you fast or did it take a few secondsCode: Select all
208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
Not running a VPN.
Did the above but the problem persists - after a few seconds of regular surfing
the browser says "can't communicate with the server in address.."
Running "nslookup linuxmint.com" returning "connection timed out; no server could be reached".

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
sounds like you didn't finish changing the dns. can you show results to see if the changes are applied:
don't take a picture of it. copy the Terminal writing then push the 5fth button above (code) this comment box and paste it in the middle of it.

the line IP4.ROUTE[1]: dst = 169.254.0.0/16, nh = 0.0.0.0, mt = 1000 is in question. can you post what you have in

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
nope, i don't see anything wrong with your /etc/hosts
the only this i can now think of is when was the last time you cleared ALL your history and cookies of your browsers?
and power cycle your router. unplug it for about 20 seconds. do you have a modem and a router or only one device?

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
Yes, all history has been delited.
The router has been unpluged, no modem.
Maybe something with the device manager? it's not up to date
and stucked when updated.

open Software Sources > Additional repositories and UNcheck CD-ROM (Installation Disk) then run
apt update

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
Disable power-saving on your wireless card.
Change the contents to
Ctrl-O and then enter to save, Ctrl-X to exit.
Reboot. Double - check powersave is off via
Disable ipv6 for your wireless connection in Network Manager.
Might also be worth looking at your router settings. E.g on my router allowing the router to auto choose wifi channel creates havoc across a lot of my devices. This is because I'm urban and there are a a couple of dozen competing wifi networks in range and I think the router is often cycling through channels trying to find the best one (a futile exercise - they are all crowded).
Edit to add - on re-reading your original post and that your HDD has been moved from one machine to another - try with a Live CD of the same version of Mint - can you browse successfully from a Live session. If so consider backing up your user date and starting a fresh with a new install. May as-well got for 18.3 or 19 whilst you are at it.
sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Change the contents to
Code: Select all
[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
Reboot. Double - check powersave is off via
iwconfig

Re: surfing problems after replacing computer
did you delete your connection from network manager and create a new one?
