How to get a USB dialup modem working?

Post by EdB »

How is this done? I have a little USB 1.1 56K modem (which works transparently with W7) that I would like to use for emergency purposes but can't get my system to use it or configure it. I am on Mint 19.1 Cinnamon.
When I go to the network screen, it tells me the Mobile Broadband is unavalable, and the settings button is grayed out. It shows Provider SuperTel Supremo but I did not add that.
