Mint 19.1 and PrivateInternetAccess

Post by felgro » Fri May 24, 2019 1:37 am

Hi, this is a rather general question to see if others are having issues as well.

My old Ubuntu laptop self-destructed and for various reasons, mostly hardware related, I have divorced Ubuntu and moved to Mint on the new one. Have been using Private Internet Access for years without any problems. However, using PIA 1.1.1 client on current Mint I am having terrible and erratic performance. Some portals are as slow as a diallup modem, while others fluctuate in speed randomly. PIA support have not had any reports from Mint users with this version.

Rather than instantly blaming my wireless card, just wanted to know if anyone other PIA users here have had problems?

Hi. Have only ever used PIA on mint and windows over the years and never had a problem at all, either on wireless or hard wired. Used only intel wireless cards on laptops.

Bummer. Was really hoping there was a simple setting I overlooked. I have one of the nightmare cards -

Code: Select all

description: Wireless interface
       product: BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
       vendor: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries

I'm using PIA 1.1.1 (build 02545) on Mint 19.1 without problems. Same on Windows 10.
Do you also have problems with PIA when connected via ethernet?
Any wireless problems when not using PIA?

I think I just confirmed what I didn't want to. I have another 19.1/1.1.1 laptop with a Realtek card working as a seedbox and it's chugging away 24x7 with a flat line speed no hiccups. As I said, I was just fishing in the hope there was some setting I hadn't tried or was aware of.
