Nordvpn altering iptables settings upon connection

Post by Sir_Skurpsalot » Fri Jul 26, 2019 10:23 am

Whenever I connect to nordVPN I noticed it removes my iptables rule of -A INPUT -j LOG every time. It also changes my OUTPUT policy to DROP, which doesn't seem to matter because everything still works. But I definitely need input log turned on so PSAD will function. I uninstalled ufw and gufw just to make sure I wasn't getting any conflicts from those somehow, and have checked my saved rules and they are as they should be. It seems as if nordvpn has it's own firewall rules saved somewhere that it applies upon connection, but I don't know where. Any ideas? Thanks for reading.

Nordvpn customer service confirmed with me that Nordvpn does indeed apply it's own iptables configuration upon connecting and that there is no way to change it. Anyone know a vpn app that doesn't do this?

Installed expressVPN, does not have this problem. Guess I'll be switching.
