Lost ability to print from Windows VM Mint 19.2 host

Post by Neil Edmond » Tue Oct 08, 2019 6:53 pm

I have been printing just fine for weeks (months?), documents from a Windows VM (VirtualBox) to a hp printer connected to my Cinnamon 19.2 host. About a week ago, I noticed the ability to print was gone. Then I discovered there was no network connection between the VM client and host. Cannot print, cannot browse the VM share I had been using, and I cannot for the life of me determine why. I'm at a total loss as to where to look and what to look for. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I thought, maybe a kernel update had caused this, so rolled back to the previous, but the lack of connectivity persists.

The ipconfig command in Windows will give Win ip address. May be it has changed. It happened to me when I use Ubuntu server as the client on Mint host.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

Deepak

I am using Mint 19.2 Cinnamon 64 bit with AMD A8/7410 processor . Memory 8GB

Thanks for taking the time to reply deepakdeshp. I don't think my problem is related to the Windows ip address because I can still browse the shared directories on the VM from Linux Mint, just cannot go the other way and connect with Mint from Windows VM. That said, I've started looking around on the Mint side to see if I can find the issue. I was able to connect the Mint box from a physically separate Windows 10 laptop, but still cannot connect my Windows VM.

While looking at Mint's "Sharing Options" I see an exclamation mark at the bottom of the dialogue box that says: "The permissions for Wrong number of arguments prevent other users from accessing this share." Problem is I have no clue what that means...
