Why does nordvpn have to disable UFW to function? This actually is annoying as hell as i don't use the vpn all the time and i have to keep running a command to re-enable it every time nordvpn is not used.
Is this something linux specific? Do all VPN services that have linux apps require UFW to be disabled?
If not, which ones would you suggest?

Re: Nordvpn disabling UFW
Hi,
On a personal level, I hate installing 3rd party non open-source software.
So, you could try this (in Cinnamon):
Download some ovpn files from Nord here:
https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/linux/openvpn/
Go to network manager - bottom right of screen with 3 networked little boxes, (left-click)
Network connections
+
Import saved vpn configuration
Navigate to a .ovpn file you just downloaded.
Click it.
Go to the settings for that connection you just added. (cogs)
Click VPN tab
Make sure the following is set:
General - all users can connect to network
Authentication = password
Username
Password - click the icon at the end of that box and make sure it says all users can connect to network
Save
Now - when you want to try it, make sure your firewall is on, go to Network Connection, and select the connection you just created.
All ok?
When you want to stop the VPN, just fo back to the Network Connection and slide the vpn slider button 'off' and it should switch back to normal connection.
Let us know how it goes.
I know you were looking for a solution to a slightly different question, but this way saves using their proprietary software which hasn't been inspected by outside developers for bugs/backdoors/vulnerabilities and also you don't have to rely on OpenVPN being run as/from/with Sudo.

Got the vpn working without having to switch off the firewall.
Thanks a ton!
Issue is solved.
