My network connections have disappeared

Post by benza435 »

This morning I could not connect to the internet. This is the first time it has happened on this machine.
The network icon on the taskbar says 'no connection' when I hover over it, and there were no connections listed in network connections.

ifconfig did not show my wired or wireless connections, only the 'lo' connection and docker.

lshw -class network showed my network connections as 'disabled' which seemed to be resolved with ifconfig enp7s0 up and ifconfig wlp8s0 up, they now show up in ifconfig and network connections, but I can't get any traffic over them.

I have tried configuring a wifi connection unsuccessfully, and a wired connection to the router doesn't even show link lights.

Attached are some hopefully useful outputs. Please let me know if I need to provide anything else.

What should me next step be in getting this machine back online?

Thanks

a minute or so before I ran this, I tried

Code: Select all

sudo service network-manager restart
.

I've just started getting internet notifications again, so I'm not sure which one brought it back?

Yes!
I had already ran service network-manager restart earlier today, with no effect, so not sure why it worked this time...
Im also comfused about why this happened in the first place but i guess thats a big job.
Thanks for jumping in, sorry if i wasted your time

No problem, glad you got it going. One thing you can do is turn power management off so it won't cause wifi problems:

Code: Select all

 sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Reboot
Locked

Return to “Networking”
