How can I access windows shares from XFCE w/ Thunar~?

Post by bruceleejr »

I read a bunch of stuff like:

Code: Select all

chown -R root.root /etc/
but I get

Code: Select all

operation not permitted
I also get stuff like:

Code: Select all

sudo: /etc/sudoers is owned by uid 1000, should be 0
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
I can't even click on anything in "etc" because Im not a sudoer or whatever

So I know this has something to do with Samba or something like that. I think I have Samba installed because I see "samba" in "etc" and stuff but I don't know how to actually open it up as an application lol

Also Synaptic Package Manager does not open up in XFCE either so I am unable to find anything through there. It's probly only for Gnome.

Everything is shared on my XP PC, how can I access them from Linux Mint 9 - Isadora w/ XFCE|Thunar~??

If you install gvfs, then you can do gvfs-mount smb://[windows share] from the command line.
It will mount to ~/.gvfs. You can then use thunar to navigate to those locations.
