Recommend an FTP client?

Post by mint123 »

I don't know what's available in Linux. The last time i used ftp was CuteFTP a LONG time ago. I'd like to it over SSL if possible. Would FileFTP for Firefox just be fine?

People swear by FireFtp, but I stick with Filezilla. I also like CrossFTP for FXP stuff. FlashFXP is on my short list of window programs I miss.

I use Filezilla and I am very pleased with it.

Takes some getting used to and tweaking but FileZilla is completely usable. I'm a registered FlashFXP user myself. It works great in Wine if you want to bring it along on your Linux adventures.

+1 for FileZilla, quick and easy to use, and stable.

I don't use ftp or sftp that often but what advantages does FileZilla or any of the other ftp client GUI's have over Nautilus itself?

Noobs don't know Nautilus does FTP.

True! I'll look into this. I like the idea of using the programs I have already. But really, as long as it works and is secure, that's what matters.

I tried it but having a true FTP client that remembers directories and login info is more up my alley.

I use filezilla a lot. Meanly because I can remember my FTP connections and directories which he should open on connection.

If you use KDE KTorrent for instance is quite good...

I'm not sure what you mean by not remembering directories but the login info can be saved by selecting "Remember forever" when you input credentials.

Using Nautilus seems simple enough

I have no server for upload to yet but I'll try using Nautilus first. Thanks for that suggestion! :D
