I think all the Cuddly Clems have gone, but there may still be some Celeb Lefebs aroundMintBean wrote:Have they sold out of 'Cuddly Clems' in the store?

Wow... never noticed those until you mentioned them. Too cute! I just bought a bunch for the kids.Mick-Cork wrote:I think all the Cuddly Clems have gone, but there may still be some Celeb Lefebs aroundMintBean wrote:Have they sold out of 'Cuddly Clems' in the store?
Re: Linux mint mascot.
How do these "Cuddly clems" look like? And are they official mascot or something?
Re: Linux mint mascot.
And little did they know at the time but this was moment LinuxMintMascotGate was born....MintBean wrote:Just a little joke. There's no existing mascot.
Re: Linux mint mascot.
Ha! Looks like this gag backfired. Just had some sketchy looking characters at the door asking for a monkey's worth of Clems.
Linux mint mascot.
Well.
Linux mint needs some creature what will represent it. A creature what will be associated with linux mint.
In other words, a mascot.
Appealing mascot makes everything more liked. For example konqi and KDE, windows 10 has windows 10 tan https://www.ostan-collections.net/wiki/ ... rofile.png etc.
So linux mint also needs a cute mascot able to conquer hearts of people.
I'm bad at drawing but maybe someone here who has talent in designing mascots will try to design mascot for linux mint what will be used to promote mint, or ask someone outside community (Like TysonTan, creator of Konqi and Kiki)

Re: Linux mint mascot.
Please god no.
I hate these childish looking mascots. The manga-esque female cartoons with the face of a child but the body of a developed adult in particular I think is an image Linux Mint and open source in general would do better to steer clear of.
Be aware that whilst Mint is under a GPL license, the Mint branding is not, so you or I couldn't go off and create a new distro called 'Mint extra' with a modified Mint logo. In the same way, I would not try to promote any mascot in association with Mint before getting Clem's agreement, for reasons of courtesy if nothing more.
Personally I think even if done well, a mascot really adds nothing to the branding of an OS and potentially weakens it.

Re: Linux mint mascot.
MintBean, I could not agree more if I tried with two hands!
If Mint needs to have a mascot at all (and I'm not convinced that it does) then I'd rather have a sassy Tux dancing in a Hula skirt made from mint leaves, or whatever, than one of those child-women.

Re: Linux mint mascot.
I agree! I think that those types of 'mascots' like Windows Tan are just this side of the edge of perverse.

But mint-chan can be designed more elegantJerryF wrote:I agree! I think that those types of 'mascots' like Windows Tan are just this side of the edge of perverse.
Re: Linux mint mascot.
Personally I'm still not interested in having a decorative, fictional girl or woman represent my OS, no matter how elegant she is. That's not the problem.

Re: Linux mint mascot.
Moem is quite consistent with what she thinks about OS-Tans. Back then, I had no real problems with them. But looking at them now, they kinda creep me out.

Re: Linux mint mascot.
No, no, I've got it! Mint Linux should go for the vocaloid character Gumi!!
Why? Well, she's a state of the art hologram singer with some cool songs so you have the whole high tech thing mixed in with art, soul and creativity. Plus, she's sorta anime cute and she has green hair!
Mint Perfect!
She performs live in concert too!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tvejccCnEI
Of course, there is the small matter of the persona of Gumi being 100% copyright Cryton media and that anime characters with green hair look a bit weird as opposed to perfectly acceptable anime/vocaloid characters with blue hair and blue ties.
Actually... the whole idea sounds a bit silly now I type it...
Oh sod it, here's Hatsune Miku instead!

A bit more serious post than my lost one *cough.*catweazel wrote:Good grief. You want to drive people away from Linux Mint in droves?IUseLinucCusIsFree wrote:https://www.ostan-collections.net/wiki/ ... rofile.png
I admit to being an anime fan and I agree that the 'tans' are a bit creepy but that's because they are voids. There is no expression or personality in the images.
Why Hatsune Miku has taken the world by storm (and she has!) is because the voice had personality and this became reflected in the music that was created for her and in the personality the fans ended up putting upon here - enough that I can actual personality type her (she's firmly an ISFP on the Myers Briggs typology measure.)
To see Miku in action as a person see here, seriously. Worth it. You'll see.

And the outtakes!

Notice it works because Miku has a clear personality!
If a mascot with some kind of personality or at least expression could be generated it might be acceptable.
of course, the trouble is that the likes of Miku have a clear function - singing and performing which kind of lends itself to personality. (Mint) Linux is a general purpose OS which does not exactly lend itself to anything that be that clearly associated with anything that specific or with personality.
So I have not actually come across a mascot that I can associate with ANY OS except Tux! So I do not know how much difference a mascot character actually makes. But I am always in favor of cute anime characters with character!
