Creating Launchers in Mint LXDE 11

Postby d2jxp » Fri Oct 28, 2011 10:01 pm

Is there a way to create a custom launcher on the desktop in Mint LXDE?

For example: I have downloaded Eclipse Java EE Edition and it comes with an executable. I would like to create a custom launcher on my desktop to that executable. There doesn't seem to be any obvious way to do this (right-clicking?). Thank you!

Edit:

Okay. Found a workaround, I guess. I installed LXMed and added the path to the Eclipse launcher that way to the Menu. Then right-clicked and added that to the desktop. But this still seems like the long way around. Is there still an easier way?

Easy way is to install lxshortcut.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install lxshortcut

Then run the following command to create a new shortcut on the desktop, it will popup a dialog for you to enter the target of the shortcut:

Code: Select all

lxshortcut -o ~/Desktop/myshortcut

Use -i instead of -o to edit an existing shortcut.
