Creating your own Free website with Free custom domain and Free web host

Postby phd21 » Tue Oct 13, 2015 1:44 pm

Hi Everyone,

For anyone interested in their own website, your own domain name, and a good web hosting company, I thought I would share my reply to a post for another user so that others may benefit from it. The original post is in French, but you could use Google Translate, or another translation program or website, to translate the original post in French into whatever language you are comfortable in.

I decided to try some of the newer website creation tools, other than the traditional web site applications and HTML editors, like Dreamweaver, etc... and the good Linux web builder applications like Google's Web Design, Kompozer. BlueGriffon, SeaMonkey, etc...

It has been a few years since I created any websites, so I thought perhaps now is a good time to try again. Then I could pass on any new information to others.

I found that you can easily create your own website using an incredibly easy to use online website builder called "Zyro Builder". It is truly a "drag and drop" graphical website building program that almost anyone could easily use to create their own website. The website link for "Zyro" is below, and I think you can use it from whatever country you reside in. Although I am familiar with traditional web site creation programs including those that have been mentioned in this post and others, this "Zyro Builder" site is by far the easiest I have ever used and I did not have to install anything to use it. You can pick a website template (there are many), or start from scratch, then easily modify (edit) the various web elements (text, images, forms, etc...) with your own customizations and have a website up in minutes. It really helps to have a good web hosting company as well and some web hosts already have built-in links to "Zyro Builder". Some of these web hosts also have their own "file managers" that pretty much eliminates the need for FTP clients to upload (manage) your website, because you can upload, or download, backup, and import, your website to and from your computer within these simple to use web file managers just like using Linux Mint File Manager or a MS Windows File Manager (Explorer). These " web based file managers" are usually located in the web host's management section, under the "FTP" heading section, and or "cpanel" (control panel). "Zyro Builder" also has a really nice and easy website backup & restore feature too.

I found an excellent article on how to build a website very quickly and easily including free domain and free web hosting; the link to this article is below.

Zyro Builder - super easy & great online website creation tool

Very Good article - How to make your own website for FREE in 10 minutes (with custom Domain and Host)

I created two web sites for FREE with two different Free excellent web hosts.
1.) I got a free domain name "MyName.gq" from "Freenom.com" which I easily linked to the web host "www.grendelhosting.com" by simply and easily changing the "FreeNom.com NameServers" to use the "Grendel hosting NameServers" (there are instructions in the links and on the web host sites for this) this took a little time (normal) for the Internet to connect and recognize the domain name is linked to this web host, about 24 hrs; this can be much quicker, or a little slower.

2.) Then, I used another web host "www.bugs3.com", to create the other website, including a free domain name (sub-domain name = "yourwebname.bugs3.com"), and that was up and running almost instantly, just had to refresh the web page. These other hosting sites also provide free sub-domain names, like with Grendel Hosting "yourwebname.grn.cc", or maybe "yourwebname.freehosting.com".

Serversfree.com is also used by other companies, and one that I liked a lot (except for the name "bugs3.com") with unlimited features is below. you can get a free sub-domain website name quickly and easily, like "yourwebname.bugs3.com" which is nice for testing and practicing with various web creation stuff, or for using as your own main website right away.

If you have your own domain name and web host, you can use that with "Zyro Builder". Or, if you don't have a domain name yet, and you want your own name with a more common extension like ".com", or ".net", etc... then you will probably have to pay for that which is usually not that much (appx: $12us-$20us per year) , which can also be easily done through these web hosting companies.

FYI:
- FreeHosting.com - looks good too

- Other really good inexpensive web hosting sites are "bluehost.com" and "godaddy.com".

Hope this helps ...

Hello Everyone,

Update: 02-16-2017 07:18pm US Eastern:

Whenever anyone uses a free web hosting company, or free domain name provider, there is the possibility that it could stop, or go out of business. This is not always the case, but it is possible. Of course almost any business could go out of business at any time, that is reality.

So, it is a good idea to check periodically to see what options are currently available.

After replying to another user's post in this forum, link just below, I found some more information to share with anyone that may be interested in this.

FYI-2: I tried to create a free "Zyro" account on their actual website last night, rather than using their awesome web site builder through another web hosting company which continue to work very well, but it would not let me? Might have something to do with the Linux FireFox browser (might not), which anyone can use a "user agent" switcher add-on to change how another website views your browser and operating system, but I have not tried that option yet or with another browser to see if that matters with creating free account on Zyro.

"x10hosting.com":
I was able to easily register and get a free domain name from the superb "x10hosting.com" which became active almost immediately, whereas there can usually be a delay of 24-48 hours to register a domain name and have it accessible to use, and was able to use their WYSIWYG "Drag and Drop" Web Site Builder application to create the website below, all of which took less than an hour (minutes for creating the website). Their website builder looks and acts a lot like "Zyro" builder (site.pro) and may be that.

"000webhost.com"
I was able to easily register and get a free domain name (something.000webhost.com) and an even better sub-domain name (something.SomethingElse.com) from this great hosting website "0000webhost.com" which became active about 12-24 hours, and was able to use their WYSIWYG "Drag and Drop" Web Site Builder application to create the website below, in less than 21 minutes, even though to totally customize it with my text and images will take longer. Their website builder is "Zyro" builder.

"Freenom" is a great website. You can easily get free or paid for domain names, which can be used by any web hosting company. I have not tried it yet, but it looks like they might have a free option for hosting as well along with a WYSIWYG "Drag and Drop" Web Site Builder application called "GoSite" (Freenom GoSite)?

With free domain names, select the 12 month option (of course), and I think you can renew it after that for free before the 12 month period is up, otherwise you loose it, or have to pay a small yearly fee.
