Fresh Install, Created two user accounts - switching between accounts results in error

Postby CreateChange » Sun Mar 19, 2017 11:34 pm

Hey all,

I am new here, but going to provide you with as much information as I can and will answer questions - but I may need a bit of hand holding. I'll do my best.

Alright, so the issue is that I have two user accounts, one for work use and one for school use. This is done on what is more or less a fresh install on a Razer Blade Stealth. I was having very ew issues with anything, until randomly I started encountering errors upon switching users. I run into one of two errors:

First I can get a "failed to start the X server" error, which completely stops my ability to change accounts. Iit completely stops the process.

The second error that I get is that it will let me switch accounts but from that point on I am unable to do anything. I can move the mouse but am unable to click on anything. I have to hold the power button to reboot and get it back to operation.

Do you know of any possible solutions to this? What additional information can I provide that will give you the information you need to assist me!

P.S. This laptop has a hiDPI screen - I have figured out how to change everything post login to scale accordingly, but my login in screen is very miniature. I have to squint to read a thing.

Thanks for your help!

Don't know if this would apply for you or not, but I have an older HP2000 laptop for portable purposes with Mint 17.3 Rosa on it, and it has had issues logging in/changing users, depending upon the login in display. In "Menu"-"Administration"-"login window", if I choose the "Synergy" picture for the login desktop, it gives me all sorts of grief, whereas the "Autumn" one works great. Just a thought for something quick and easy to check.
