Linux Mate Debian Version

Post by muffybean » Thu Nov 07, 2019 6:53 pm

I have Linux Mint MATE 19.2 and wonder what version of Debian do I use. Can't figure out how to find this out.

You can probably check the repo name with inxi -r then check https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=debian to match the release, e.g. buster, stretch etc.

My understanding is that Ubuntu 18.04 (and hence Mint 19.x) is based on Debian 9, aka Stretch, but I don't recall how I know that.

As for your suggestion, WharfRat, I don't see anything useful in the inxi -r output:

Code: Select all

pbear@mate-19-2:~$ inxi -r

Am I missing something?

Code: Select all

cat /etc/debian_version
Should tell you what Debian version your Mint is based on..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Min ... on_history

Will tell you what Ubuntu version a Mint release was based on....
However I have not seen a similar chart for Ubuntu to Debian..
Aspire-TC-705 Kernel: 4.15.0-70-generic x86_64 bits: 64
compiler: gcc v: 7.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.2.3
Distro: Linux Mint 19.2

Excellent. That says my understanding is incorrect, but nice to see a clear answer.

Code: Select all

pbear@mate-19-2:~$ cat /etc/debian_version
