[SOLVED] can't connect to forums.linuxmint.com with my real IP

Post by rickNS »

EDIT; SOLVED. no intervention required, the problem fixed itself, as gm10 suggested / predicted.
Many thanks to all.

Have not been able to connect to this website since last Thursday. I thought maybe it was down? So today (day 3) I checked at the chat room on the community.linuxmint.com website, and was told the site is up, no problem.

So I did the following;
Deleted cookies, no change, different machine, no change
Tried a fresh Browser, a new user profile, no change
Reboot Modem, router, ping the site through terminal, no change...unable to connect. Starting to get upset now.

The only way I am able to get on is to use a different ip, IE a VPN, which is running now in terminal, and not ideal for sure. (I'll see if I can set it up with the GUI network manager later)

I would like to log on like I used to for the last 9 years with my real IP address.
Anyone know how this happened, how to fix it ? Or able to / have the authority to "unblock" me / My Ip address?

PS. THANKS to @jeremyb for the help over there in chat room...you have to be on your toes over there..haha.

PPS. RE. that recent discussion about the value of a vpn...I can tell you they do have a value at least sometimes, you don't have to be a criminal to need one.Wink-Smiley.

You probably need to take it up with your ISP. The problem you describe could BE A BROKEN route to linuxmint.com. It may be that the ISP cannot do anything if there is a broken route and the faulty hop is out of their control.
It's kad-eye-cha, not kada-itcha.

Usually it's not about your IP as such, it's a regional thing and which server of Sucuri's CDN receives your request based on that. That server is probably down. Has been happening before, will probably fix itself in time, otherwise Clem has to talk to Sucuri about it. :P

also had that issue, as well:
- to check, if the forum is working, then I'll use either of :
https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
OR
https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/
to check .. ..

You were right, it fixed itself, after about 4-5 days. My other machine connected this morning without issue. (running without VPN).
It's really nice to have more than one machine.
