Choosing the Desktop Environment of Linux Mint

Post by johndavis007 »

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie to the Linux OS. After going through a https://ittwist.com/blog/best-linux-distros, I am planning to install linux mint on my old computer. can anyone here guide me which is the best desktop environment for the older computer?

Depends how old your computer is. The Xfce Edition, and also the MATE edition, are lighter on system resources than the Cinnamon edition, but equally beautiful and functional with a similar workflow.

If you can boot from a USB stick your best option is to dl ALL 3 Mint desktop versions and test them yourself. DVD booting is too slow to get a feel for things.

The best thing would be to buy 3 USB sticks and burn a version to each and try them.

Personally I'd use Cinnamon (30+ installations) unless your computer is 20 years old.
