Just did it again. It was going so well.
What were you doing when it happened?

There are no error messages in dmesg which would indicate a problem like you were having in the past. For more than an hour the only messages were the firewall blocks.

Just using Brave Browser. I did have 5 or 6 tabs open, but just Google Maps and a few non-video, minimally graphical sites like Campendium. It's not unusual for me to have several open tabs when I'm mapping a road trip, which I do often.

I've been keeping an eye on the System Monitor Applet in my panel. Whenever the RAM and Swap start getting higher than usual, I shut my browser down, and they both drop. Then start it again. I did not notice what System Monitor was doing when it happened this morning. It was so unexpected. I've noticed Reddit usually uses more resources than most sites I visit, but I was not on Reddit this morning.

The issues showed up in the log the last time, so I have no guesses as to what might have happened this time.

The 5.13 kernel became available in Update Manager since the last time you posted with an issue. Going from the 5.4 to the 5.11 seems to have helped. Maybe the newer one will also help.

Apparently Brave did an illegal instruction which caused a core dump/crash. Sounds like a code malfunction of some type with Brave. That may be why nothing showed in the log. The problem was Brave and not the operating system. I am not familiar with Brave, so I do not have ideas for troubleshooting it.

It's based on Chromium. I don't know how much it is the same/different.

I've not yet done much work with browser code/functionality and I do not use Chromium so I do not have any guesses.

Do you think it might have been memory-related this time? If you know the approximate time, we could check the journalctl to see if anything out-of-the-ordinary might be mentioned.

It seems like it's my browser's memory usage if I had to guess. It would have been shortly before that post.

I'm trying to set up Firefox the way I like, as it seems chromium-based browsers are causing this issue for whatever reason. By any chance, would you know how to eliminate the annoying grey border around Firefox?

I do not know to what you might be referring. I have a grey header at the top and a grey scrollbar on the right side, but that is all. Maybe that is a setting in Mint for your Windows?

You're right. It was the Mint-X window border.

Okay, try this. 8:20pm CST, only Firefox open. I had dozed off for almost an hour. I pick up the laptop, and scroll down on the page, and it happens again. Where to even look at this point???? No crash report.

Okay, try this. 8:20pm CST, only Firefox open. I had dozed off for almost an hour. I pick up the laptop, and scroll down on the page, and it happens again. Where to even look at this point????
If no crash report, then I suggest running dmesg -T | tail -n 200

It appears your wireless driver crashed and took down other stuff with it. Based on the "tainted" messsage, it seems it is a proprietary driver. Is it?

I do not have any clue how that might be related to Cinnamon crashing. I did find a bug report rtl8821ce crashing at random intervals on HP 15-da1009cy laptop running Linux Mint 20 on 5.4 kernels #165 so apparently others have had crash issues with it. However, I do not see where anyone mentions collateral damage from.

It is possible that was the last thing to happen before you noticed the system crash, but it did not have anything to do with it.

I'm sorry, but I am completely out of ideas.

Do you think it may be worth it for me to buy a $10 USB WIFI adapter to bypass having to use the Realtek one?
