Website access issue.

Post by fluidity »

Hi. I am trying to access the following website using Firefox.

https://www.very.co.uk/

However, I keep on getting the following error message:

Access Denied.
You don't have permission to access "http://www.very.co.uk/" on this server.
Reference #18.84a71002.1664150382.f4dc470

Can anyone help? Thanks.

I would guess there is more to the message than what you posted. Is there a header on it to say from where it is originating?

I'm using Firefox and I was able to get to the site. However, I am likely in a different location than you so that might make a difference.

This looks like the same as saying "My computer doesn't work" and then not giving any information about it.
Basically, "How long is a piece of string?"

SMG and I can both open it.

The questions -
Where in the world are you?
Who provides your internet service?

OK, looking at your previous queries it appears you are in the UK. Yes?

I can open it too, if you are using a VPN to connect to the site turn it off and try again. There's also the possibility it was down for maintenance
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

I am very grateful for all of the replies. Someone in the family suffered a bad back injury, nothing critical, but it dragged on for a while and I forgot all about this. I am still getting the same issue on the same pc (xfce). There is no header, from what I can see.

I am in the U.K.. My internet service is provided by BT.

I wasn't using a VPN. The site definitely wasn't/isn't down for maintenance.

I'm at the back-of-nowhere, using a campsite's WiFi on an old a Mint Cinnamon laptop using Firefox. No problem opening that website.

Great. How do I get to your campsite? The website does now seem to be working on this pc, when using the Opera browser. I have it in my head, that this wasn't the case back in September, but I can't swear to it. So, this 'might' be an improvement, with my situation. However, I am no fan of Opera and I would rather avoid using it, especially when it is just for the sake of one website. Furthermore, it is in my nature to always try to get to the bottom of things. It's the best way to be in life, even if it doesn't seem that important. So, if anyone does have any ideas, then do please let me know. Thanks. :)

P.S. Argghhhh...

This seems to be saying you are rather than "http://www.very.co.uk/" in fact trying to access "http://some.server/http://www.very.co.uk/", possibly more specifically "http://www.very.co.uk/http://www.very.co.uk/" (since it's "some.server" which is giving you that message).

I.e., if you are clicking a bookmark or alike, look at the properties of that bookmark, and if not, be very suspicious of some local "URL-rewrite" addon that you may be using.

So how many other browsers have you tried? If it works with one then to get to the bottom of it you try all that you can find. Firefox by default on Mint, Chromium, Brave, Tor, Vivaldi.
Have you tried any of those?

As for accessing the website from your first message, right click on it and open in another tab so what you actually wrote is being used.

As for the campground, a weekend of Country music here and been talking to lots of foreigners, a Canadian, Scots, English, all passing through.

Notice the http link redirects to the https link.
Accessed this date on Firefox 109.0, using right-click > Open in Tab.

The website is not bookmarked. I am not using any such addon.

No, I have not. If you think that testing out more browsers will help to identify the Firefox issue though, then I will do so.

Sometimes Firefox doesn't open a website as it should and if in doubt, I will check such a site with Chromium.
However, the website address you give opens in Firefox but it is still worth checking with Chromium in your case.
