Launcher in extra panel Mint 18??

Post by LennartL » Mon Aug 01, 2016 8:08 am

Installed Mint 18 Cinnamon.
Has created a new panel at the bottom. (Because I want the menu bar at the top)
But how do I get or move application launcher (icons such as a game) in the lower panel?
And is it possible to move the bottom panel to the left side?
Run normal 17.3 Mate but want to test cinnamon.

Moving a panel to the left (or the right) side is not (yet) possible.

For moving applets between both panels (or from the left to the right or vise versa) you have to enter the panel edit mode. This is available, if you right click the panel at en empty place and select this command. Now you can drag the applet of your choice to the place you want it to have. This might be a little bit cumbersome for some applets, as you might unintentionally activate that applet by doing so. Don't forget to disable the panel edit mode afterwards otherwise the applets will not be usable as you are used to.

For moving applets between 2 panels there is also another method (without panel edit mode): Right click a panel -> alter panel -> copy applet configuration. Now right click the other panel -> alter panel -> paste applet configuration. Afterwards remove the copied applets from the panel, where you do not want them to have (right click the applet -> remove). Sounds more circumstantial, but avoids the above described problem fo unintentionally activating an applet. Note, that with the second method the already existing applet configuration on the second applet will be deleted.
