Method Driver Not Found

I recently reinstalled LinuxMint on my computer after adding additional memory and a larger capacity hard drive and for a while, everything was working fine. However, I have been recently confronted with an apt problem. When Update Manager tries to refresh, the following message comes up:

E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/https// could not be found

There are no memory or hardware issues at first glance, and the apt-transport-https is the current one for Qiana (LinuxMint 17). I tried looking for information on other sites, but no luck.

I followed your suggestion, and here is the result:

You will have to disable the entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera-stable.list either from software sources or by editing the file and placing a '#' in front the deb https//:deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free line.

As the message stated there is no method driver for https.

Kudo's to WharfRat for finding the cause of the problem and for providing the cure.... Learned something today.

Just this remark: note that your Opera web browser now won't get updates anymore. This will cause it to become insecure, at some point in the future.
