Method Driver Not Found

Post by Manta9527 »

I recently reinstalled LinuxMint on my computer after adding additional memory and a larger capacity hard drive and for a while, everything was working fine. However, I have been recently confronted with an apt problem. When Update Manager tries to refresh, the following message comes up:

E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/https// could not be found

There are no memory or hardware issues at first glance, and the apt-transport-https is the current one for Qiana (LinuxMint 17). I tried looking for information on other sites, but no luck.

Manta9527,

Welcome to the LM forum :)

Is there an entry in /etc/apt/sources.list with an https:// address instead of http:// :?:

You can check with inxi -r

I followed your suggestion, and here is the result:

You will have to disable the entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera-stable.list either from software sources or by editing the file and placing a '#' in front the deb https//:deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free line.

As the message stated there is no method driver for https.

I edited the file and that took care of the problem. Thanks. :)

Kudo's to WharfRat for finding the cause of the problem and for providing the cure.... Learned something today. :)

Just this remark: note that your Opera web browser now won't get updates anymore. This will cause it to become insecure, at some point in the future.
